 Welcome to my photography blog!

I am a Malaysian female photographer based in Kuala Lumpur/Selangor that loves any kind of photography listing from nature to skyscrapers, weddings & events, and especially portraitures for pregnant families, newborn babies, couples & families.

I am also an avid scuba diver which enables me to capture amazing underwater images from all around the world.

This blog follows both my professional life (as well as) some of my personal life, featuring “MOMENTS” from the maternity & newborn sessions, weddings & beautiful people I managed to capture with my lens, the places I travel and the friends and family members that mean so much to me.

It also contains random information source for my current and potential clients as I’ll (from time to time) provide some useful links of wedding tips & what-nots for your ”surfing” pleasures. I hope this blog will also be a source of inspiration and education for other photographers.

This site is a little more informal and I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about.

Do feel absolutely free to leave comments or post questions. You can also contact me further at enquiry@astherlau.com for other booking enquiries.

My Little Haley Is Growing FAST!

Oh My… Oh My!!!

I’ve been Oh So busy lately that I didn’t get much time to blog nor take pics of my little Haley. My guilty conscience has finally kicked in so I finally took some time to write this one up.

My little girl is growing up really fast! She’s now 6 months old and in just a blink of eye, she’ll be turning 7-month pretty soon! She’s just started her mini crawling and getting really good at it day by day. We’re kept busy “running” after her as she’ll crawl to any nooks & crannies, looking for something interesting for her hands and mouth.

Yup! She’ll bring ANYTHING she can get her little grubby hands on into her mouth. We started her on solids very recently too and she’s loving the new tastes oh so much! But along with it came the oh so Shmellllyyyyy poo poo! Whewwww!!! Her poo poo’s textured has changed to a thicker concoction, hence, sometimes we get to catch little Haley’s face turning all red, trying to push those little bombs out her little bum! It’s sooo funny to look at cos sometimes, she’ll give this big sigh of relief at the very end of the hard work. Okay… don’t ask for videos cos I’ve tried twice and everytime she’ll stop what she intended to do, leaving herself “poo-less” until the next day.

My little girl is also becoming a terrible cry-baby. She loves to cry… FOR ANYTHING and NOTHING. She loves to scream and cry and whine, especially when evening comes each day. It is very exhausting for us, as we had to work twice as hard to distract her, amuse her and play with her. We’re still not too sure how to solve this matter as we think she’s still too young to be disciplined or taught. Are we wrong? Any advice out there from experienced parents?

Anyway… due to my busy schedule lately, I had to leave Haley with my own mother at home a lot and this does not do well to our mother-baby relationship at all. First… I tend to miss her alot when I’m away working. Second, Haley has now became more attached to my mother than to me. It hurts when my own baby cries and she doesn’t want me, instead looking for my mother. I do wish sometimes that I do not have to work and can be a mother fulltime at home. But our financial situation doesn’t allow it at the moment due to some financial burdens which we can’t get out of anytime soon. :( That really sucks & pisses me off sometimes.

Okay… before I get anymore upset… let me show you the many faces of my precious Haley. These photos were taken at different stages of her life, so enjoy!

These following photos were taken when she was just over 1-month old. She didn’t know how to sit properly yet, so I propped her up in between two huge cushions. She’s wearing some of her new clothes that day. Her smiles & chuckles never fail to melt my heart.

We finally got the chance to bring Haley back to my hometown in Kuching. She just turned 4-moth old. She did so well in her first flight experience! Didn’t cry at all. Was more curious than anything else. :D Note to parents who want to fly with their babies: Ask for a baby banister or baby cot when you book your flights. It’ll come in handy especially when your baby wana sleep and you wana eat! ;)

While in Kuching, the weather was very beautiful and I found many beautiful empty lands with pretty grasses for photo shoot. Since I didn’t have any photo shoot booked while there, I took my Littl Haley instead for a rendezvous around Kuching. Sunset time was just nice as it was not scorching hot nor heaty for babies. ;)

Once my new blog is up, I’ll be posting up videos of Little Haley too! ;) So stay tuned! Thank you for dropping by this blog!

Engagement: Albert + Faye l Petaling Jaya l Malaysia

Hello there!

Today’s post is going to be a little different. ;) Once a while, I get the chance to capture some romantic portraits for those love-birds out there. The typical go-to-the-park or romantic settings of a restaurant, etc.

I’ve been searching inside & outside for a new approach for engagement and wedding portraits, praying constantly for guidance from HIM. Finally! This couple was brought to me with an interesting & amazing idea. An underwater pre-wedding style portrait session! I mean… WOW! Alas this has got to do with an element which I am oh so familiar with for sooo many years! :D

Due to budget and time constraint, we decided to have this session done in a swimming pool. Preparation was done with a check-list, having in mind both technical and safety issues during the photo session. I had some friends over to help me during the session and it all went soooo well! I’m stoked!

Meet Albert and Faye from Hong Kong!

Initially, Faye was all jittery and nervous about holding her breath and being underwater. I took my time, re-assuring her that she’ll do very fine. Half and hour later, she forgot all her nervousness and all smiles throughout the day!

My ALL time Favorite!

Albert and Faye. Words cannot describe how much I appreciate your willingness to be infront of my lenses. You have become friends to me which I’ll treasure forever in my heart. :) Thank you! And YES we will discover Malaysia again when you next come visit! ;)

Ooh Baby: Lil’ Tiffany l 7-month l Petaling Jaya l Malaysia

GOSH! I have not blogged for aaagessss!!! So so so sorry… Too many things had happened since my last post. I’ve been pretty busy with my cameras, capturing cutie pies in their cutie moments as well as some happy happy romantic moments for some beautiful couples. Editing work is tying me down a lot these days.

And my Little Haley is still a handful! She’s growing so so so fast & I try to spend as much time with her so I don’t miss her growing up moments. Will post up some pics of her later. ;)

My new blog is still in the making, hopefully to soft launch it by next month. *fingers crossed*

I’ve been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism recently. I’ve been having heart palpitation, getting hungry every 2-3 hrs no matter how much I ate yet I didn’t gain any weight, body tremors & suffering from heat intolerance for quite some time now. All these while, I thought theses symptoms were due to me breastfeeding & having very little sleep at nite cos Haley has yet learnt to sleep throughout the nite.

My recent trip back to my hometown, I decided to visit my family specialist doctor for a blood test & general body check-up. Good thing I did! Now, I’m on medication for my thyroid & heart and praying hard that I will get well fast.

Anyway… The main reason I’m writing this time is about one of my recent baby shoot.

Remember Little Tiffany??? She turned 7-month old few months back & we had another sweet session together with Daddy S and Mommy C at my condominium’s swimming pool area. Mommy C was concerned that her little girl will not look nice in the photos this time round cos she had had her hair cut very short recently. She was shedding hair (which is pretty common and to be expected on babies in their first year of life) and her mummy decided to have Littl Tiffy’s hair cut so she’ll look better.

Well Mommy C… Your worries are over cos Tiffy is still such a cutie pie! Just look for yourself! ;)

She still loves her little fingers!

Something Exciting Is Coming…

Hello Hello Hello…

Once again… so sorry for the lack of posting lately. Still busy shooting & editing some wonderful series of moment I’ve captured recently.

I’ve also been caught up with taking care of Haley by myself as my mother went home for 10 days. During her absence, Haley had had her first fall and she had a bad shock which lasted for almost a week. I took the whole week off to be with Haley, calming & soothing her cries almost 24 hours. Good news is… she’s totally fine now. Doctor didn’t find anything wrong with her after the fall and Haley’s finally calmed down after we’ve prayed over her few days back. She’s now back being a happy & naughty girl at home. :)

Okay… this post will have to be a short one. Just want to let you know that I’m the in the midst of having my logo re-designed as well as getting a new blog template. Am also going to have the new blog be hosted on my own domain pretty soon. Very exciting! Well… at least it is to me! Hahaha… :D

Till then… have a wonderful (coming) weekend!

Toddler: Lil’ Aidan l Kuala Lumpur l Malaysia

Little A’s mom found me via my website and contacted me to capture his precious moments while back visiting his grandparents in Malaysia. My confinement period was just over & I was really excited that this opportunity came by for me to do what I love… Capturing photos of memorable moments, especially of little cutie pies like Little A!

During the shoot, I had had some alarming moments whereby my blood pressure dropped & I got some dizzy spells, especially in between running & squating. But thanks to the Lord Almighty, all was manageable and I finally head home with sooo many beautiful photos of Little A with his parents.

Although the sky was gloomy that late afternoon, we managed to have some fun at the park near his grandparent’s house at Lake Field. Here are a few captured moments of that very day.

Little A is currently staying in Hong Kong together with Daddy W & Mommy K.

Published on X-Ray Magazine – Issue #25:2008

Just want to share with you one of my achievement in my underwater photography. The photos I took from Pulau Weh were published on an international online magazine, X-Ray Online Dive Magazine, last year. These photos were also published by AirAsia in their inflight magazine for the month of August 2009. One of my Turtle Photo was also made as the cover page for Action Asia’s special dive edition. I was stoked! :D
